Today I received a file from one of the techies of my articles and seeds that I posted on Newsvine - all 10,890 pages of them! That made me momentarily sad, because I clearly liked the site to have used up so much time and effort on it. Seeing them also prompted me to act.
I have decided not to wait until the last week, or day, to say my farewell, but to say it now, today, to the friends and colleagues whose company I shared over the 10 years, and who helped to make my stay so memorable.
I actually left 6 weeks ago when the closure was announced, and I am very pleased because, thankfully, I have missed most of the madness and vitriol that has since erupted among some people who couldn't cope with the news and the impending change, and who felt they had to blame others for that feeling of loss, and attack them for good measure, too. It has been a really sorry sight, and I kept well away, building something positive in the meantime in my new chosen forum. And I'm very proud of it.
However, I just wanted to say that I will certainly miss Newsvine. I made some wonderful friends, had some delicious discussions, and have seen the care and affection that virtual strangers have given me from so far away, especially in my darkest days, which is beyond words to express and appreciate. I will miss that friendship, comradeship, and bonhomie, because it was an important part of my world.
I am very sad to see it go, but am also thankful that I was able to experience it, while appreciating the opportunity to explore something else which might be even more enjoyable and amazing.
Special thanks to everyone I've interacted with here; thanks for sharing my world, my thoughts and my aspirations. Above all, thanks for simply being there. I will miss you all very much, but hope I to see you on Minds, where I am making my own mark already.
Thanks to Newsvine staff, too, for doing such a thankless task in keeping the site open despite all the issues.
Just one favour to ask before I finish: If you haven't chosen where to go yet, have a look at my channel on Minds.com.
It shows what is possible in just 6 weeks. We also have a thriving little community of Viners there which is just amazing. So you would be among friends if you come and join us. I hope you will, because the site has a lot to offer as a new direction.
Finally, I wish all my friends, colleagues, and everyone I've interacted with since I joined Newsvine, a most wonderful future, and even more fantastic things ahead.
Do look after yourselves. :o)
