Hi everyone. It does feel strange in here!! But great to see the familiar faces!!
I thought as I gave a send off from Old Newsvine that I might as well do a welcome for the new one. Today I have done nothing different from what I did before. I was used to the new front page, being a Beta monitor, so there were no surprises there. This has been my schedule, if it helps you too.
1. I went straight to my personal column to familiarise myself with it, to work out what is new about it and to edit or amend anything that I felt needed to change. But it was really for my learning experience.
2. Then I spent some time experimenting with the three different styles of page presentation (top left hand corner) to see the difference. The first one that presents the stories graphically is pretty eye catching, but can be confusing and takes up a lot of space too. The second one (the list) I think is a good compromise because you can see the stop stories immediately, and it still looks good. The third style is too plain for me. Does nothing to fire me.
3. Then I brought up my friends list to check it and clicked on a few names to see what groups/nations they were in, assuming they had done their 15 already, which most people haven’t. Then decided to forget Nations for today and just comment in the public discussion area, if I saw a story or seed that attracted my attention, though I will be using the nations for commenting as I get used to the site. If you are looking for your FRIENDS, you haven’t lost them. Just go into your SETTINGS, then NEWSVINE, then you see FRIENDS tab on the side. :o)
4. MOST IMPORTANT: I am spending a LOT of time just EXPERIMENTING. Playing with all the buttons, looking at everything new and familiarising myself with it and making sure I understand the basics.
It has been really good so far. But this is DAY 1, folks, expect many glitches. Give it time….. But so far so good. :o)
By the way, I am deliberately doing a poll today so that I can compare your very first impressions with three months, six months and a year down the line. I don’t expect poll results to be high, but it’s a start!
