John Boehner, the current Republican speaker of the House, still does not get the simple logic of how to win hearts and voters. The party that claimed a resounding election victory in 2010 on the unmistakable platform for creating JOBS, has been fighting shy of that word ever since. If one looks at all the obstructionist activity in Congress since their win, not a bit of it has anything to do with CREATING or FIGHTING for JOBS for the unemployed caught in a financial trap.
Having lost the presidential election, the Republicans are back with a flourish barely a month into the new year. Still pandering to a very small vocal and MALE section of their party, Mr Boehner was upbeat with his latest pronouncement; very proud of it, in fact.
Was it about JOBS? Noooo.
Was it about increasing incomes for the middle classes? Nope.
Was it about understanding the problems people face now with their mortgages and the recession and doing something about it? Hell, no!
What was it about then?
John Boehner grandly announced that "one of his fundamental goals" of the coming year was ending abortion, never mind that it is already a right already enshrined in Roe vs Wade. Happily going back in time to control women's wombs and to dictate their decisions. Notice the priority too: not just a goal, but a fundamental goal. Nothing else seems to matter. Nothing about the problems ordinary Americans face because of the recession, and the need to create jobs. No siree. Ending abortions is the greatest priority for him and his party that it comes ahead of everything else.
Seriously, is that a party one could put their trust in, have faith in regarding one's interest, believe in, or even vote for?
In case Mr Boehner and his cronies don't yet get how to win voters, it is not too difficult. Just do something for the people that actually BENEFIT each person. How on earth does ending abortions, which are already legal, a benefit to the ordinary man, woman and child in America?
It is just too unbelievable for words.
But what do you think?
