In my opinion, NO. If God is supposed to love all His creations, where does fear come into it? What is the meaning of love, and how valid is it, if one has to fear the object of that love?

I grew up in a 'brimstone and fire' era of the Catholic religion and it did nothing for me except to brainwash me in negativity, make me terribly anxious about my soul and all these dire sins I was supposed to be committing, while constantly hearing about the love of God too. I couldn't see how that 'love' manifested itself if all we had to focus on was fear! Well, the two are not quite compatible.

But that's my thought on it. Should your God be feared?
