Gold medal winning Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas was the first of a string a celebrities due to make appearances at the Democratic national convention.

Appearing on stage on Wednesday to lead the delegates in the Charlotte, North Carolina arena through the Pledge of Allegiance, the athlete, who is nicknamed the 'flying squirrel' is a confirmed fan of President Obama.

Asked if she was nervous before her turn on stage, the gymnast said, 'Not really. I'm just going to go out there, be myself and have fun.'
