The president of Nike decided to change the name of the Joe Paterno Child Development Center after disturbing details came to light about the football coach's involvement in the cover up of his assistant coach's sexual assaults on young boys.
The move marks a clear change of heart on the part of Nike, and CEO Mark Parker said Thursday he was deeply saddened by the news coming of the Louis Freeh investigation which decreed that 'powerful men' at Penn State- including Paterno- 'repeatedly concealed critical facts' about Jerry Sandusky's sex abuse.
Nike's decision shows that their support of the coach has dropped dramatically, as only six months ago, company founder Phil Knight gave a eulogy at Paterno's funeral, defending his actions and his legacy.
