Sandra Fluke has been in the news recently because of the offensive way she was put down by Rush Limbaugh. But the fact that she stood up for herself and everyone else related to the subject of contraception has made her a heroine in the eyes of many people.
To them, she had the guts to take on the powerful men on Capitol Hill and the likes of Limbaugh, and still towered head and shoulders above them in decorum, decency, communication skills and the ability to defend her corner. Facing the Republican men, with their closed minds, on such a sensitive issue would not have been easy for her. She certainly inspired a lot of women with her actions.
But what does being a hero entail in our modern world? What does a hero have to be to merit the label?
In times past a hero was basically an unselfish person who probably laid down his/her life, or was truly brave, courageus and inspirational. Does that description still stands?
What makes a true hero for you, and whom would you choose as a modern hero/heroine?
