A Georgia Democrat has devised a clever response to her Republican colleagues’ recent zest for imposing big government regulations on female reproductive rights: regulate vasectomies as well.

The proposed law, put forward by Rep. Yasmin Neal (D), would ban the practice of male sterilization except in cases where a man faces serious health risks without one. It was crafted as a response to a so-called “fetal pain bill” proposed by Republicans, which would ban abortions after 20 weeks.

Brilliant move! After all, by having a vasectomy, the men are stopping babies from being created and born!!

Republicans are keen to use their valuable time to enter a gender war against women. About time the tables were turned.

I guess then I should go to jail since I am sterile due to medical reasons, and as such am an abomination to 'republican humanity'.

Again they make an invalid comparison. Getting a vasectomy is akin to getting tubes tied. No one has wanted to make getting tubes tied illegal. That is different than no one objecting to paying for someone else to get their tubes tied.

The difference is that when it comes to political debate, the sex lives, practices, etc regarding one half of the population that's needed for pregnancy to occur is never on the table. Women are constantly held to a ridiculous moral standard in a debate where men are held to none.

Men are given no decision in a pregnancy.

Is it wrong to want the politcos to get their analogies correct? Is it really?

Men are given no decision in a pregnancy? Really? Wanna buy a bridge in Brooklyn?

A man has no decision once a woman is pregnant. It is not his decision to abort or keep it. It's also not his decision prior to pregnancy for her to be on BC. He can only control his own actions and those end at conception.

Really? Well I know of some men who have actually demanded an abortion when they hear of the pregnancy and the fearful girlfriends complied!

The man has no legal say in the matter. She can abort it and he can do nothing. She can keep it against his wishes and he will be on the hook for child support for 18+ years.

If they are anti abortion in what world is a man getting a vasectomy contrary to their cause? If more men got snipped who didn't want/need kids, there would be fewer abortions because there would be fewer mothers who feel as though they have nobody to help them care for a child! You can't be anti abortion while fighting birth control methods and expect a GOOD outcome.

As soon as there is a male version of the birth control pill, there will be a population crash in most western countries. I look forward to that day. It made me smile when there was a pserm shortage in the UK.

Note: a vasectomy is on part with tubal litigation as far as birth control goes and can be permanent. Also, you can just walk into a doctor's office as a young man and say "here's the payment, snip me". Not all doctors will perform the operation due to age (you're too young and might change your mind) or a lack of kids or you mentioned your partner doesn't support it.
