This past week presented a revealing lesson in contrast as to how different media enterprises deal differently with anchors and other editorial personnel who fail the test of principles that ought to govern all journalists.
CNN was put to the test this week when Roland Martin posted a tweet that appeared to advocate violence against gays. Martin pointed out that it was not meant seriously and wasn’t even directed at gays, but at the sport of soccer. Nevertheless, CNN acted quickly to suspend Martin indefinitely.

1. Todd Starnes: Fox News has smeared the Occupy movement from its inception. It has disparaged occupiers as everything from unfocused to unclean to un-American. But it took Starnes, the host of Fox News & Commentary on Fox Radio, to equate them to mass murderers by asking, "What should be done with the domestic terrorists who are occupying our cities and college campuses?" By comparing occupiers to the likes of Timothy McVeigh, Starnes is engaging in rhetorical terrorism and insulting hundreds of thousands of concerned Americans

It is the ultra conservative way. Don't like you, disagree with me; you're not a true American so be gone. However, I agree that vandalism of property, private or public, is not the way to show the world you are fighting for the average worker like me.

When OWS first started I was ok with it as protest is one of our main and wonderful rights....Then they started burning american flags and singing @!$%# america while breaking into and fire bombing Business at that point they are now just like any other criminal trash. And need to be treated as such.

I have posted this so many times it is almost spam. The Great Patriarch of the GOP, Reagan, created this negative dialogue in the Media, when, by executive order, dissolved the Fairness Doctrine that kept the Media from publishing or broadcasting the vile we read and hear today. That Doctrine kept the Media from supporting a position and allowed for a similar response from those who didn't agree, in other words, when an opinion was aired the media had to give equal time to opposing views. The demise of the Fairness Doctrine has created the Limbaughs, Obermans, and all the other crazies we are overwhelmed with today. That doctrine forced the media to be fair and equal in their reporting. Though viewed by some that the doctrine was a foot on free speech, it was actually a rule that said free speech was to be accurate and not slanderous or inaccurate. Journalist at one time considered themselves to be the voice of truth for the people, now we never know who is lying or who is telling the truth. We have always had some media giants who ruled with an iron fist and only published their idea of truth, such as Randolph Hearst and other Barons of publishing, but people knew them for what they were, now, only God knows who's truthful and sadly he's not talking.

Is this part of the Media Matters (Tax Exempt) plot to attack FOX employees and destroy them ? Does Soph work for Media matters ? Certainly does looks like synchronization.....
http://hotair.com/archives/2012/02/15/media-matters-took-600k-for-gun-control-while-carrying/
Media Matters reported at the end of 2010 that $612,500 of its assets were “restricted” by donors to be applied to “gun and public safety issues.” During this time, The Daily Caller has already reported, Brock’s personal assistant was carrying a holstered and concealed Glock handgun when he accompanied Brock to events.
On the matter of MMFA’s tax exemption, The DC reports that Congress may open an investigation into their status:
Congressional Republicans are now interested in examining the Media Matters For America‘s tax-exempt status, The Daily Caller has learned. Doing so would cause the GOP to wade into the complex world of tax laws that govern “exempt organizations” such as Media Matters and more than 1 million other charitable organizations that are exempt from federal income tax.
Media Matters’ critics have questioned its tax-exempt status for some time. The Internal Revenue Service has a series of requirements that must be met before organizations can qualify. Successful applicants pay no federal income tax because the government presumes such charities perform services that benefit the public. Donors also may deduct their charitable contributions.
One central requirement before an organization like Media Matters can achieve the gold-standard nonprofit status — known by its place in the tax code, Section 501(c)(3) – is that it may not “attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities” or “participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.”

One Man's Lonely, Fruitless Search for a Media Matters Patsy

If you've missed the Daily Caller's investigative reports on Media Matters, you've missed a bunch of dirt about David Brock and a hilariously over-the-top 2009 e-mail from a former staffer recommending total war on Fox.

Media Matters - At least before the scandal they were full time guests in the Chris Matthews Show.
All are alike, Fox, MSNBC, et al.
- 3 votes
Media matters is not like Faux "News" ...Faux actually pretends to be news, Media Matters is as non partisan as Brent Bozell's Media Research Center, which has the same Tax exempt non profit status , if you want to strip Media matters of that title, there are many more right wing groups that hide their advocacy behind "non profit status".
BTW Fox can say whatever their masters would like, they just shouldn't be allowed to call what they do news. MSNBC is "the place for Politics", and has a conservative on 3 hours of prime morning drivetime. Their shows are mostly liberal, and they opine about news they don't claim to report the news in an unbiased manner.

ahh the above comment wasnt enough for you? THIS ARTICLE IS ABOUT FOX NEWS it is posted by alternet, media matters does NOT appear anywhere but in your off topic comments. If you want to bitch about media matters, go write your own damn article. Republicans know how to do that right? Why are you terrorified to talk about how fox news never punishes bigots and people with other various ethical infractions.
people like you jaytee always dismiss complaints about fox news and scream MSNBC IS JUST AS BAD, but here is proof that they are not. MSNBC Fired people for being bigots. MSNBC fires people for breaking the rules. MSNBC suspended their top pundit for dare giving to a dem campaign when the fox news entire staff actively promotes republicans, both oreilly and hannity are well know contributors to the GOP.
So why are you soooooooooooooo damn desperate to change the subject? scare that people might pay attention and see fox for what it is? Scared you are going to lose the fox news debate so in a childish fashion you try to change the debate to one you think you will win?
Go make your own column about media matters and I will come post in there and I wont say a damn thing about fox.

LOL. And that's why you're reduced to posting snippy comments on Newsvine.
It's like a cat fluffing up its tail to make it look bigger. I'm sure the real story is that you are paid to troll on this site (that sure is some big leagues) and you are doing exactly that - trying to derail the conversation.
The fact is, and you can't deny it, that Fox has engaged in some of the most deceptive, unethical and divisive journalistic practices since Yellow Journalism was first noted in the early days of the mass-produced newspaper.
Also, while we're at it the arrests and prosecutions of Murdoch's News Corporation continue, and that's important to note that Fox's parent corporation is now under a heavy, dark cloud of criminal suspicion.
It is not at all a stretch to imagine this criminality extends right to Fox News itself. It would explain the overall total lack of journalistic ethics and credibility that Fox News displays. Bull@!$%# flows downhill, as anyone who works in a big organization knows.
So, as goeth News Corp, so goeth Fox News.

This article is about Fox Hate from the Progressives.
Example:
Article Spin:"
She further asserted that servicewomen should "expect" to be raped because they work closely with men.
The above quote from the article has a one word quote, surrounded by paraphrasing spin.
Here is a Complete quote from Liz, which evidently interfered with the SPIN or was too much effort to quote a complete sentence.
"the sexual abuse report says that there has been, since 2006, a 64% increase in violent sexual assaults. Now, what did they expect? These people are in close contact."
You will notice the Object of the "they expect" points to the Government report.....not "servicewomen". Geez, we ain't that stupid in reading comprehension. One word surrounded by SPIN.....WTF ? Go peddle the propaganda on the Whitehouse.Gov site.
The article has a profile of a common Media Matters HIT PIECE. It's a lousy one at that, and an example of the CNN "in depth" journOlist practices.....
But hey, what the heck, lets watch the Democrat progressive spinners have some fun....
- 1 vote
You will notice the Object of the "they expect" points to the Government report.....not "servicewomen".
What a feeble excuse for a sexist retort by this lady. Whether she is referring to the report or not, HER assumption, and her opinion, is that sexual abuse is okay because of the proximity of the genders! We are talking about sexual abuse here, not adult consensual sex! When did it become acceptable because of proximity?
Why are you justifying the abuse of women, JayTee?
Geez, we ain't that stupid in reading comprehension.
That's a matter of opinion, in view of your interpretation of it!! :o(
- 7 votes
Now, what did they expect?
You're arguing semantics here, and you're losing. Badly. What the @!$%# differnce does it make "who" the "they" are? The fact is that she said it. It is @!$%#ing rePUGnant. The fact that you're trying to define who "they" are doesn't matter one good goddamn.
She is, in essence, saying that increased rape in the military is to be EXPECTED as a result of opening up more MOS'es to women. What a steaming pile of bull@!$%#. That's like saying that because I decide I want to work as a machinist or welder, I should expect to be raped by my co-workers because those are male-oriented jobs.

I Heard a similar critique on Liz air on Comedy Central just yesterday, the Colbert Report....even Colbert played the entire sentence from the Video.
His satire was slightly different from this article, but it was Satire, it was comedy. You guys must have a problem with Coleber's interpretation as it's different than yours.
But, this Seed's futile attempt to be serious by lifting a single word "expect" from a video, and never once quoting the entire sentence or paragraph, then throwing in "Servicewomen" when the word was never mentioned in the video, is just weak and indefensable. It's laughable also.
You guys just don't have it, because we 'Get it', we can read, and you can't hide your Fox prejudice.
I tought FOX only did sports.
Whats the big deal? If ou don't like what they say just press the clicker. We have so many channells covering the same issue that if you don't like one just change the channell.

I Heard a similar critique on Liz air on Comedy Central just yesterday, the Colbert Report....even Colbert played the entire sentence from the Video.
You didn't hear diddly @!$%# from Colbert on this. You heard it from John Stewart (also on the Comedy Channel), who @!$%#ing DESTROYED her. And Santorum, by the way. And to add fuel to your flaming pile of @!$%#, the Colbert Report cancelled its production yesterday. So you could not POSSIBLY have heard it... yesterday. Oh... here's the link to Stewart's slammage in case you really want to see it.

really our news media should be better regulated and held up to a hirer standard. The right have for years encouraged media consolidation, leaving us with less and less choices in media. and when you have less competition, you dont have to work as hard.
But people like fox should be off the air. IF a scientific poll is done that shows that people who do not watch the news at all... AT ALL are more informed than your viewers, you should be immediately shut down as a harm to society. left wing, right wing, doesnt matter. I dont care if you think cutting spending is best or raising taxes is best. That is fine. It is when you believe all the bailouts happened under Obama, or that reagan didnt raise taxes, or that saddam had wmds but moved them to syria, well then your news network has a serious problem not giving people the news.
- 8 votes
If our media were held to higher standards and better regulated we wouldn't have CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, and NPR who control the opinions of the sheep in this nation with their slanted liberal pro socialist bias that has been dictated to them by the multinational interests of the NWO the true owners of the mass market who thrive on creating right and left paradigms that cause conflict and hatred while distracting the people from what's really going on; the theft of our freedoms! This is a fact: the mass media journalists you see as anchors and commentators are members of the CFR. That's a 4000 member country club vetted by the same families who own the Federal Reserve. Connect the dots do the math and don't strain your brain too hard.

fox news for most of the day is straight up news reporting "Americas News Room" is hours and hours of just the news of the day.
but everyone loves to refer to Hannity or O'Riley and call that Fox News, no, that's fox opinion shows, lefties don't know the difference.

some here think fox news is actually journalism or they wouldn't be wasting what little brain power they have defending it .

The foundation for Fox's success lies in the liberal media. Before the advent of Fox News our media was predominantly liberal, especially television. Print media was more balanced, many places had a morning paper that was usually considered to represent the Democratic point of view and an afternoon paper with a Republican point of view, many of them published under the same roof.
Along comes a businessman. What a find! A huge untapped market. All of those viewers with no one on their side to watch, just waiting to be exploited. He took advantage, snuck up slow, FOX developed a following with entertainment shows. In the early days Fox News was actually quite tame. They broke out with a lot of fanfare but were actually pretty fair in their presentations and started eating it's way into a major market share.
Of course this pissed off the big three and the liberal media in general and so the wars began. To many liberal types were being asked questions they didn't like, so they started crying about being treated unfair and would stop accepting invitations to appear. Instead of hurting Fox this actually helped them, people started tuning in just to see what all of the controversy was about, more viewers became aware of FoxNews and they got an even bigger share.
Both sides use the same "Shock & Awe" strategy (synonymous with "yellow journalism").
The liberal media would have done more to suppress FoxNews if they had just ignored them. Guess what? They didn't want to. "Competition breeds business." Fox was getting a share of the market, but they were all making more money. Look at what it has done for the internet. All of these articles and comments about bad media are hits that make money. The media makes a profit by encouraging the media to be badmouthed. Commentators have become nothing more than controversial celebrities, just like those in the entertainment industry. Targets of shows like TMZ which glorifies the actions of the paparazzi.
Journalism has disappeared, media politics is nothing but a business for profit run by businessmen not journalists.
I have no doubt that Fox has done it's fair share of dirty deeds. Is there a network that hasn't? That's what makes the business work.Bottom line, this country is fairly evenly divided. Fox News has garnered the conservative market, liberal media has to divide the liberal market between themselves. Result--FoxNews Number One in the ratings.

And......don't forget that many and many hosts/commentators came from CNN and MSNBC.

The "liberal media" appear to have a liberal slant when they report the facts. By contrast to support the conservative, or more correctly the republican, agenda , one must tell lies.
If Fox reported the truth no one would ever vote for extremest republicans...ever.

Greta Van Susteren was on CNN, her husband is a well known Dem.
She is now in Fox and I enjoy her program.

Yes and James Carville's wife ,Mary Matalin, is a well known republican stratagist and worked for George Bush.
So what? In this century the political affiliation of one's spouse does not reflect one's own views.

No IV it is true from the start. It "seems it must be true", because it is.

Point that; Fox lies to support the republican agenda and anyone who tells the truth appears to have a liberal slant by contrast...
Proven, yes...Your welcome.

Democrats don't have to lie to support their agenda
You really believe your own hype.....WOW..just WOW

It is virtually impossibe to support the republican agenda and narative without consistantly lying and misrepresenting the facts.
That is well understood.
That is what Fox News is all about. Making those lies seem viable and believable because it's on TV and it's called "News". In your case they seem to have been quite successful IV.
Wow just WOW!... I would have thought that someone who is all "independant" and votes with an open mind, like yourself, would have a more obsevational and realistic view of how Fox news tells lies for the republican party.
It's amazing that an "independant " would defend what they do IV.

If I type slow....I do not watch Fox News / Commentaries. Never said I did.
Republicans lie Democrats lie. Period.
Democrats don't have to lie to support their agenda
Are you serious? Really? Politicians lie? Wake the kids and call the neighbors. LOL.
One example Democrats' claimed that "Republicans voted to end Medicare." In fact, the assertion was so off the wall that PolitiFact.com named it "Lie of the Year 2011."
Have a good day

The "fact " is that Republicans voted to change medicare so much that it resembled the old Medicare system in name only. Just as they wanted to change Social Security so much that it no longer resembled what we know as Social Security.
It is an old ploy that republican liars have used since Reagan. Change something but call it the same thing so no one notices. Call it the "Patriot Act" as it takes away the rights that patriots fought for.
In the spirit of factual reporting to say that republicans voted to end Medicare " as it has been known" is absolutely the truth.
I didn't say Democrats never lie. I said they don't have to lie to support their agenda. Republicans do.
There is a difference.
BTW my day has been and continues to be just fine.

So PolitiFact lied or has it wrong?
If the comment in question is "republicans voted to end Medicare" That would not be true. The program they would support would still be called "Medicare".
If the comment in question is " republicans voted to end medicare, as we have come to know it", That would be absolutely true. Medicare would be so changed by the republicans no one could recognize it from what it was.
PolitiFact takes all sentences in question literally, without editorial interpertation, and judges them on their face for accuracy.
Get it? Got it? Good!

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a Web ad that said seniors will have to pay $12,500 more for health care "because Republicans voted to end Medicare."
republicans voted to end Medicare" That would not be true
Thanks.....By your standard..Democrats lied..Got it? Good!

Well, since the GOP voted en masse to replace the government run, taxpayer funded, guaranteed, single-payer system with a taxpayer system offering vouchers premium support to seniorsso they could go purchase private insurance plans on the free market, without the benefit of the Federal government's negotiating power OR a guarantee of benefits, yeah, the Democrats WEREN'T lying - the GOP voted to end Medicare and replace it with a fatally flawed plan that would look nothing like Medicare....but they'd still call it Medicare.
Got it?

They lied...deal with it. All policitians lie.
But the GOP are noted for it and good at it. LIES it is all they do.

And it took a liberal Hollywood actor to teach them how. Orsen Welles proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the masses are stupid enough to believe what they hear from the media.
Wow, you know it is fun to say ridiculous things now and then, not that what I said is entirely ridiculous. This latest exchange here has been one of the silliest yet most entertaining discussions I have seen for awhile. The silliest part is how some of you are so insistent that it is only one party that lies or is famous for it. Ten year olds on the internet know better than that, and other than myself I don't think there are any ten year olds here. Am I wrong?

Way to deflect as always IV.....sorry, the Dems DIDN'T lie in this case.

To be fair, there is an example of Fox News firing reporters who crossed a line that even Fox could not abide. Steve Wilson and Jane Akre investigated a story detailing the health risks posed by the use of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), a milk additive manufactured by chemical giant Monsanto. Fox objected to the story’s negative portrayal of a major advertiser and ordered the reporters to make modifications that they knew were false. When the reporters refused, they were fired. In the subsequent litigation Fox argued in court that the network had a right to determine the content of their stories, and even to lie, and that employees who declined to comply could be terminated as insubordinate.
If I recall, Fox News won this lawsuit. This is most likely the origin of Fox's current so-called "news" format.

Yes Charles, When fox won this case and discovered they had legal grounds for lying about the facts and calling it "news" they became an uncaged wildcat, devouering every news story and regurgitating it with a fictional narrative to support the republican agenda.
When they found that there were no consequences to lying about the news they truly went ballistic.
They still are.
- 2 votes
And yet you still watch?
Absolutely. Not consistantly but I feel everyone needs to sample news from all over the dial to fully understand the political landscape. When Fox tells a whopper it is important to know that they have, so the truth can be viewed in the light of what republicans feel they don't want us to believe.
Know thy enemy well.

I dunno leon...
I understand knowing your enemy, but spending too much time "knowing" them could result in Stockholm Syndrome. It's better to run away and only take their poison in VERY SMALL doses. :)

I agree with that Charles, wholeheartedly, as enemies can easily get us bogged down in their negative way of thinking, and cause us to lose sight of our own goals as we focus on challenging them.
