This Sunday, in a New York Times Magazine profile, actress Cynthia Nixon threw political correctness to the wind when talking about her lesbianism as a “choice” — but her remarks are actually supported by mounting scientific research.

Regarding her late-in-life sexual orientation switch, the “Sex and the City” star said:

Copious research has revealed striking differences in male and female sexual orientation and arousal. In immensely awkward studies measuring men’s hard-ons while viewing various sexual stimuli, most guys have a strong response to either males or females; and their sexual orientation generally predicts their physical reaction. On the other hand, Bailey explains, “Women’s genital sexual arousal pattern is much less predictive of their sexual identity and their stated preferences,” he says. “Lesbians have a relatively weaker arousal preference for female sexual stimuli, on average, and straight women have no preference at all, on average.”

Most people believe that homosexuality is a filthy, disease-ridden practice explicitly condemned by God.

Are you peaking for yourself, Smarg? Because many people also believe that they are as much a part of our society as heterosexuals and you didn't quote that!

    Ma'am,

Any sinner should always remember that the God who commands us to love our neighbour is the same God who will cast any and all unrepentant sinners into the "eternal fire". Here are some Bible quotes, Lev 18:22-23 "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." Lev 20:13 "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death." 1 Cor 6:9 "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals" 1 Tim 1:9-10 "realizing the fact that (civil) law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers" Rom 1:26-27 "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error."

I guess if you believe in the bible, all that means something to you. But as religion is one of the most divisive things among humanity, which also makes some insecure and bigoted people feel superior over others, I will pass on any comment.

I have always thought that there were a certain percentage of homosexuals born that way, a certain percentage that choose the lifestyle and a certain percentage that become that way after suffering sexual abuse from a member of the same sex when young. I am a Christian and I do believe the Bible, but I also believe that God loves everyone and commands us all to do the same, so to point fingers and offer judgement on them goes against Christ's teachings. As I believe that some people are born that way I just assume it to be true for all gays that I meet. Who am I to judge them? I sin every day, so if homosexuality is a sin then they are no worse of a sinner than I am. I will love everyone and leave judgements to God.

Excellent comment, Luke, that sums it up well.

      Indeed! Most likely.
