The thought is very tantalising: to live on and on, without ever having to worry about death, but the practical consequences of this would be enormous.

Nature operates on a definite cycle with birth and death at either end. If everyone is living forever then hardly anyone would be born to give fresh new life and impetus to our world. What about our health? Would we be healthy as we grow older, on and on? Would we remain as strong or become very weak?

I also think it would be pretty lonely, especially if our children and friends are not living forever too. There would be hardly anyone for us to relate to. Would we also get bored after a while, and scared of the realisation that we would never die?

No, I wouldn't want to live forever, but I wouldn't mind living until 120 perhaps, so long as I have all my faculties and can continue to do great things.

How long would be a maximum age for you to live? What main reasons would make you want to live longer?

You bet I would. Four score years are not enough to realize all I can dream.

morning Ms C i'm back, don't think i could endure getting to a point where i would no longer seek relationships, because of the reality of their mortal being, could not stand to cry that many times. as to advances that would be too cool but not enough to sacrifice my emotional well being interaction is paramount in my life losing it arbitrarily is not an option. i voted not at all. stay strong my friend God Bless

If I could at age 45, yes I would. Imagine having a different career every 20 years or so.

I had much rather live in a world where there was no sickness and everyone just died of old age.

I'm going to live forever with God, Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit. I look forward to that.

I wouldn't want to live in this fallen world forever. I've already sen enough war, death, misery, crime and alll the disease, starvation, cruelty, greed and lies I care to see.

Peace.

I think the question has to be qualified. As someone with a number of chronic injuries and conditions, I would say yes if;

1 - In good health

2 - Relatively pain free

and 3 - if those closest to me were included

Then, I would love to see how things develop and advance over a long time period. As a student of history, I think that would be great.

But a society of immortals would be very different from the world we live in today, for one, law and punishment would be completely different.

Struldbrugs don't fare so well.

Immortality without eternal youth and health would quickly become a burden.

In this world? 'Heck' no. But I'd say yes to that Christian utopia called heaven. Since the article is addressing this world, I voted not at all.

Too good not to share:

Question: If you could live forever, would you and why?

Answer:

"I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever."

NO, a thousand times NO, I do not want to live "forever." First, it is just not practical to house and feed the billions of people who might elect to live forever, assuming that option became available. And their money would run out that had been saved for their retirement, so what would become of them/us then?

And I might add that our souls live forever, and that is the only kind of eternal life I am interested in. Not that I wouldn't want to live long enough to know the satisfaction of being proved right on various matters!

The human body, frail as it is, was not built to last - We were given but a single lifetime to make a difference. It is the quality - not the longevity of one's life that is important and on a more personal note, as a person of faith, I have a hankering to see the Lord (when the time comes!) :)

Augur Well

I already am!

Life is a contact sport, I don't feel it "owes" me a da&(*&^)ed thing, it's what I make of it, hope to leave it when I finally do go (never!) at least some iota better than I found it, and want to make of it as much as I can for as long as I possibly can!

Or! When I finally hear the one kid call up the other one and I hear that one tell the other one...

"Dammit, you come and get the cranky old bast*rd right now or I'm gonna kill him!"

Buahahahhahaha!

My work will be done at that point.....(hehehehe!)

(*crankyol'bast*rdgrins*!)

(disclaimer! we actually love and adore each other very, very, much!)

Gosh!!!.........I was dust before, and I still lived. Figure to succumb, once again to the same. I suspect I will settle on some future porch, and then get swept away by the owner, to alight, still again on anothers.

I don't want to live forever if it means I'd have to work for my boss! Does that "live forever" include good health, complete lucidity, enough cash to live well in a warm climate? It ain't gonna happen. The GOP already has its Death Panelists(US Senate) ready to take out old people by killing SS and Medicare. LOL!

I would enjoy immortality. I could explore the galaxy and perform countless great actions for this Planet and others. If i was the only Immortal, I could always make new friends and allies. I think I would prefer that type of existence.

I feel there is a part of me that will go on forever. I take as good a care of myself as possible so I can enjoy good health in this body. I am not really worried about how long I last in this form.

Think if you had that choice say 500,000 years ago and got to watch and participate in human evolution. You could hold your smartphone today and remember the day you held a rock and found an amazing technical purpose for it.

Now think that forward and I don't see how you could say no.

Personally, I've been around since the beginning of time, but I keep getting sent back for a slate cleaning and redo. I've been told we will get it right eventually. Oh! The poetic justice of it all. grins with active imagination.
