Conservatives are so easy to anger these days. Even the most insignificant statement can set off their tempers. If you want to enrage a conservative, I suggest saying the following:

1. A Socialist wrote the Pledge of Allegiance.
2. Jesus healed the sick and helped the poor, for free.
3. Joseph McCarthy was an un-American, witch hunting sissy.
4. Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee were traitors.
5. The South lost the Civil War, get over it.
6. The Founding Fathers were liberals.

#1:36. Women control their own bodies.

I loved all of the numbers published but thought that since I am a woman, and repugs can't get this thought their thick noggins, I would select this one number to bring attention to this fact.

After all, we are now in the 21st Century, you would think that everyone would know and respect this fact. But repugs continue to try to control our bodies - and our business!

I stil can not understand why any WOMAN-with any sense at all- would vote repug!

102. Obama 2012.

Every one knows it will happen. We republicans/independents are just in denial.

2. Jesus healed the sick and helped the poor, for free.

So do we.

Joseph McCarthy was an un-American, witch hunting sissy

Yes he was and he did have some good points but it was mostly a witch hunt.

Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee were traitors.

They were loyal to their state like most people it was state first then country this changed after the civil war.

The South lost the Civil War, get over it.

I have to keep telling my democrat relatives this.

The Founding Fathers were liberals.

They were also traitors.

Sarah Palin is an ugly cow(said to conservative males).

said by shallow people. She is good looking but most woman are.

The Earth is round

This is just being silly.

Reagan raised taxes eleven times as President.

Most presidents do they lower one tax and raise another.

12. Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency.

Which is a good thing but it can go too far.

18. Paying taxes is patriotic.

So be patriotic and pay 90% of your income for taxes.

21. The Presidents’ full name is Barack Hussein Obama and he was born in the United States of America.

Most Republicans know this.

23. President Obama saved the American auto industry, while Republicans wanted to destroy it.

Republicans thought it should go bankruped to help it recocer. Obama did not. So Obama lost they declared bankruptcy and they are saved.

24. Hate is not a Christian virtue.

Every one knows this.

27. Tea parties are for little girls.

lets see OWS dont bath and smell. they what to rape all the women in the tents. makes about as much since.

28. Public schools educate all children; private schools are for indoctrinating children.

Save Public schools dont do education very well. We spend more money on education then most countrys and have the worst results.

Oh Ms Cyprah..you disappoint me with this very biased Republican-hate article. I always thought you were more of the fair and balanced type.

After all if you replaced the word Republican with any word for a person's ethnic make up it would cause such an up-roar it could be heard two counties over. The 100 things you listed would be just a biased and untrue for the whole group, to paint all members of that group with the same tar and feathers of negative percerption.

Examples:

Federal Reserve Act: Information from Answers.com

#34: The Federal Reserve was a Republican idea.

Fact is: the Democratic Party won control of the White House and both chambers ... Also created as part of the Federal Reserve System was a 12 member Federal Advisory ...

www.answers.com/topic/federal-reserve-act

Where is proof this is a Republican thing? It doesn't take much effort find others who make on line typos they don't catch. I have seen quite a few Libs and Democrats with veracious appetites for attacking those iwth a different political view.

Auto, Disregarding your obvious grammatical and spelling mistakes, we may spend more than a lot of countries per student but it is not the reason we are falling behind. Our culture does not reward education like it should. Our society does not value smart people or educated people. Look no farther than the Presidental hopefuls and theri speeches to know how little they value education. I have heard and seen almost every one of the candidates spew forth hatred or demeaning comments about the "educated" elite.

Another reason we don't do as well educating our young people is we do not allow the schools to teach to the pupil. We force a curiculim on them that is geared towards achieving a good score on a standardized testing system rather than actually using their creative and reasoning skills to solve problems.

We also have a huge disconnect in what we say we want our schools to do and what we are willing to sacrifice to get it done. How many parents senf d their children to school ready to learn? Would it suprise you to know that a large percentage of a teacher's time is spent teaching manners and other things that should be learned in the home?

We also spend a lot more money on buildings and new textbooks than most other countries. There is very little reason that a new edition of a textbook needs to be used every couple of years, other than history and civics of course.

Oh Ms Cyprah..you disappoint me with this very biased Republican-hate article. I always thought you were more of the fair and balanced type.

American Dream, I know I cannot please everyone and I have to be myself. I am very fair, as you say, but not when it comes to negativity, obstructionism, injustice, ignorance, bigotry and racism. I will call them out wherever they are, and the Republican Congress, in particular, has behaved disgracefully to the American people since they were elected, and are treating women and their bodies like kids. Now if my stance against that changes your opinion of me, so be it. But I am not on Newsvine to collect friends and followers. I am here to be true to myself, whether others agree or disagree. And that is how I have always acted.

I am still with you, AD, despite your disappointment, and wish you a fabulous New Year. Thanks for stopping by with your comment! :o)

And the Democratic Party was taken over by the conservative in the South then… the KKK all vote Republicans now..

As Liberal we understand that man is not a devine creation of Gods but another, more evolved animal, and our behaviors are innate to us like all animal behaviors are, "Your Left and Right" designations to explain human political behavior is wrong…mankind can be analyzed and better understood, beyond the uncertianty of politics..

Conservative behavior is an obsolete survival trait that may of had some benefit to small tribes of mankind competing for mates and territory... The world is far to small to let this continue… and to control it, so we don't destroy ourselves, it must be understood…

There is no such thing as FAR-LEFT!

Nothing is "free", somebody somewhere is working to make a product or provide a service and there are too many people who think that it's done with no charge. There is no such thing as free.

Why do people think they are entitled to someone else's services or products or the money that has been made from those things?

The states were divided by loyalty to the state and to the crown. that is why we are called United states because people were more loyal to the state than to the Government. However God did kill some early Christians that kept some of their own money so God did kill people that only wanted a little bit.

Do you honestly think that medicine is free? Do you think that doctors should work for free? Do you think that surgeries, procedures, etc., are free?

It is what Christ wants however he also knows we are not ready to live this way so it will happen during the millennium. It would be nice if we all could work to the better good of man kind.

#38: Please use spell-check.

I actually got an A in English and graduated in California with a 3.5 GPA and I also had a third grade reading and spelling level. I have since taught myself how to read using the bible and other books. Grammar and spelling is much more difficult after all this is the worlds only class five language. I do use spell check however Homonyms are a challenge when writing and so are words that look the same. I read by connecting the meaning of the sentence together if I don't know the word and don't have a dictionary.

I don't think doctors or anyone else should work for free. Their labors are worth being able to sustain themselves and to have some good things in life.

Do you really think manual laborers should just be placed in a pool of people who are seen as expendable labor and therefore not as valuable as doctors ?? If so, let the doctors and businessmen do all the manual labor as they try to do their other work !!

See just how little actually gets done. People should help others if we want this world to be a better place. The truth of the matter is, if the financial empires crumble. People will still ned food, shelter, water and all the necessities of life and money will be low on the priority list. Being able to grow fod, build shelters, know how to protect people and live off the land will be much more important at that time.

photoguy69-

...we may spend more than a lot of countries per student but it is not the reason we are falling behind.

True, but the real reason is one that the left can never admit to: The change is can be largely attributed to the demographic shift that has occurred since the Immigration and Nationalization Act of 1965. This changed the immigration patterns from mostly Western European to mostly from the third world. This coupled with liberal welfare programs also caused significant population increases of the black and Hispanic populations in the U.S.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_and_Nationality_Act_of_1965

While it is standard practice to blame the gap in scholastic achievement between whites and non-whites on lack of funding for schools, poor socio-economic status of parents, poor nutrition, or even culturally related, but despite all efforts that have been made to date, the scholastic gap remains.

(Read the article by Pedro A. Noguera and Antwi Akom ) http://www.inmotionmagazine.com/pnaa.html

Consider the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_Differences_in_Intelligence_(book)

Race Differences in Intelligence: An Evolutionary Analysis is a 2006 book by controversial race and intelligence writer Richard Lynn reviewing the worldwide literature on IQ testing and arguing for in part genetic racial differences and with a discussion on the causes and consequences.

Race Mean I.Q Mean brain size (cc)

East-asians (China, Taïwan, Japan, Korea)
105 1416

Europeans
100 1369

South-est asians
90 1332

Pacific Islanders
85 1317

South Asians and North africans
84 1293

Africans
67 1282

Australian aborigines
62 1225

Note: Broadly speaking, Lynn estimates that about half of the IQ deficit of third world races can be explained by inadequate nutrition, while the other half is racially genetic. For example Lynn argues that while Africans living in Africa average IQ 67, African Americans living in the Southern United States (where European admixture is very low) average IQ 80. Lynn believes the latter figure represents their genotypic intelligence, while the IQs in Africa are stunted by malnutrition.

In other words, our education system is producing inferior results because a larger portion of students in those schools simply don't have the capability to compete scholastically on the world stage like we once did due to the demographic shift that has occurred, and is still occurring in this country.

Obviously such a point-black analysis is not encountered in our tender-footed leftist dominated media or education system and will therefore be condemned as a "bigoted" and "racist" position, but to do so is simply ignoring the facts. As long as we pursue solutions to fictitious problems, we will only waste our national time, money, and continue a corrupt political system of Affirmative Action to deny more qualified white students college entrance in favor of black or latino students, who will statistically not help us to compete on the world stage.

The world is too

Even if that is true, the world can't vote in our elections.

PRINCETON, NJ -- Thus far in 2009, 40% of Americans interviewed in national Gallup Poll surveys describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This represents a slight increase for conservatism in the U.S. since 2008, returning it to a level last seen in 2004. The 21% calling themselves liberal is in line with findings throughout this decade, but is up from the 1990s.

I don't think that one is better then the other but neither do I think that they should be on the same level financially. When a laborer goes through anywhere from 8 - 10 years and up in education, knowledge, experience and the finances payed out in paying for that education then they will have the right to get paid close to what a doctor might make.

Daniel A... 1.26 Your post was music to my ears. Exactly! If we refuse to see we are an evolved animal, we throw out any hope of understanding our behavior. People do not realize just how much of our behavior is linked to our genes and the evolutionary past. We have an enormous capacity to change our behavior but the root of the behavior in our past remains the same. The Republicans are exhibiting a primitive behavioral pattern. I think it is genetics. The genes have remained in our population. However, those behaviors are no longer ones that will serve mankind's survival. The reality is by now we should have realized there is no need for war, there is no need for poverty, there is not need for prejudice, there is no need for religion. Too much the primitive behavioral pattern exhibited by the Republicans and Islamic extremists pulls mankind backwards. It will take him to extinction unless we stop it.

Nothing is "free", somebody somewhere is working to make a product or provide a service and there are too many people who think that it's done with no charge. There is no such thing as free.

True, but I would prefer my tax money for Americans with health care issues than be wasted on the defense industry bombing Iraq and Afghanistan.

Oh I would love to see a true socialist health care in our country where everyone can get he healthcare they need and everyone pays into it also, but I just don't see that happening because people like to make their money and they ain't willing to give that up. I would love us to start keeping our money here and help our own people instead of having so much (billions to Pakistan) go to other countries for aid but I don't see that happening either.

28. Anyone who believes that there are no public school systems and institutes of higher learning (that's college for the slow pokes) indoctrinating children and young adults into the liberal viewpoint is kidding themselves. I personally want children and especially young adults to receive education in BOTH liberal and conservative politics, something they are highly unlikely to receive from any public (and in fairness, private) school, community college or university.

Much more troubling to me are teacher's unions which have for far too long preserved jobs for extremist and incompetent educators. I strongly support public education and in no way support efforts to end it, but our school systems have to have the ability to weed out unfit teachers, especially those who have a long record of failure in educating our children!! Until teacher's unions quit running interference in those vital efforts, my support for them will be lukewarm at best.

True, but the real reason is one that the left can never admit to:

Yes, the real reason, the slow and insidious undermining of our Educational system by the Right-Wing. Demonizing critical thinking and the value we once had for getting a well rounded liberal education.

"The Gothic idea that we were to look backwards instead of forwards for the improvement of the human mind, and to recur to the annals of our ancestors for what is most perfect in government, in religion and in learning, is worthy of those bigots in religion and government by whom it has been recommended, and whose purposes it would answer. But it is not an idea which this country will endure." --Thomas Jefferson to Joseph Priestley, 1800."

PFFFFFFFFFFT!, what a pile, I won't give this author of this gem the satisfaction attaining his only purpose: offending Republicans. A handful of things he wrote may be true, but the rest of his list is stupid mutterings intentionally contrived to create a melee.

I won't respond with more of the same by insulting Democrats and ergo, give credence to this guy's own bad manners. Too bad that no one seems to be able to discuss the issues in a civil manner anymore, but instead prefer to throw sound bite grenades, many of which are untrue, over issues that are far too complex for sound bites...

There is a saying about glass houses or something.

That list of facts is concerning life long republicans, democrats and Americans. Imposing on state rights, they clearly have only few agendas in their power grab. Supporting the one percent and making their state oppressive instead of a united nation. Years 2010 and 2011 woke up so many citizens and states, No wonder their citizen donations are down except for corporation super-PAC's funds.

But ....

Maybe because some woman do not believe that they have the right to KILL another living being just because it happens to be inside their body...

I know its a strange concept but some woman really think that the life inside them is not within their right to KILL!

What about THEM ? The women that do not believe as you do?

I never said their wages should be equal, that of a doctor and a laborer. I said they both have equal value as a person and both deserve to have the basics of life. The doctor most certainly has spent time and money to become a doctor. How many could have become doctors but ended laborers because they did not have the money and could not spend the time because of it ??

Medical care based on profit is legalised murder to me. The insurance comnpanies put profit before peoples lives. The doctors are caught in the middle, they have to0 pay for all the equipment, training, insurance, and education needed to practice medicine. Take the profit from sickness and death and turn it into a continuing reinvestment of funds into the medical system.

Let's see, what works to irritate my older brother? Let's start with "good morning." We are on the phone occasionally, since we live in different states now. I keep trying to be pleasant and avoid political conversations. Everytime I say "good morning" to start a conversation, I know he is going to somehow lead into one of his anti Obama rants in less that 5 minutes.

So I really don't have to say anything special to irritate him. His underlying constant state of mind is irritation. I don't have to resort to such things as calling his favorite political pundit "Jabba the Rush, the Banana Slug from outer space."

    About education...

I don't feel that either party has done a great job on this. Its not private versus public -- we have tried both. There are other factors.

Neither party seems that willing to try anything new. Rupublicans don't seem to want to try all year round school. Democrats want students to take a bunch of classes that they don't need and think that they can legislate student learning. Money goes to the wrong places.

The problem with education is it is governed by the state or local goverment. They get the funds though Grants, but arent held accountible for using the money for what it is intended for.

They allow the building to go to @!$%#, then have to use the money to fix them.

Private schools I think do operate better but they are way too expensive for most.

Not sure what the solution is.

I think the issue here is that most Americans are very strong backers of education in theory, but when the true price of world-class education eats into their ability to afford HDTVs and vacation trips, their support falters. People talk about efficiency and such but then typically just choke off school budgets and wonder why that ends up sending the best and brightest teachers into the private sector, devaluing the education itself. This delusion runs deep.

But as in a former post mentioned we throw more money at education per student than all the other nations combined. So money is not the answer.

    Some things I don't like...

Kids forget a good bit of what they learned during the summer. Wealthy kids do better because parents can afford to have them tutored during the summer. The greatest leaps for kids comes from impoverished students who play catch up when they return to school in the fall.

Kids go to school for too many years. I think they would be more motivated if they didn't see a never ending sea of eduction through four years of college. They should start earlier and end earlier. Some school seems very repititive and could be combined--especially if kids were going to school year round.

There are way too many GRE's for college students. An engineering student should not need two years of GRE's. If they want to learn more it should not be legislated; it should be their choice. This is one place that Democrats really impede on freedom; they always want to dictate to us what we should learn.

Oh yeah and we tried private school. They were worse than the public. The school did not have funding to keep teachers current with training.

Like I said earlier neither party is the party of Education.

Republicans do seem to be down on public education right now. Republicans and conservatives as far as I can tell parted ways about 12 years ago. Public education served a lot of conservatives very well that ended up evening the playing field a lot through the GI Bill and other government programs. Without public education a lot republicans would have been without college degrees. Before the GI Bill the only people that could afford a college education were those who came from families that could afford which perpetuates the "so-called" class warfare that the republicans keep talking about.

I don't think our education systems is completely broken either; it just needs some 21st century thinking.

Stop trying to teach our children the conservative way, which is dictating to them what to think, and return to the basics of teaching them how to think.

Free thinking populations scare the hell out of the Right.

"Laws will be wisely formed and honestly administered in proportion as those who form and administer them are wise and honest; whence it becomes expedient for promoting the public happiness that those persons whom nature has endowed with genius and virtue should be rendered by liberal education worthy to receive and able to guard the sacred deposit of the rights and liberties of their fellow citizens; and that they should be called to that charge without regard to wealth, birth or other accidental condition or circumstance.

But the indigence of the greater number disabling them from so educating at their own expense those of their children whom nature has fitly formed and disposed to become useful instruments for the public, it is better that such should be sought for and educated at the common expense of all, than that the happiness of all should be confined to the weak or wicked." --Thomas Jefferson: Diffusion of Knowledge Bill, 1779.

Actually most of that money doesn't go to the student. Yes they divide the amount of money per student, they can even say that it benefits each student but really they don't go to the student. A new cafeteria benefits the students but is that money really spent on the student itself? No but they count it. Updated books benefit the student and the year you buy the books it's counted as going to the student but those books go from year to year to year, so it's not exactly for that student alone. Buy computers but it's not exactly a benefit for that student only, if you count it for every child it serves, you over state it. If you don't count it for each student who uses it then ignore that durable use of the computer. If you hire more teachers then they consider that money spent on the student but really those teachers don't exactly benefit every student.

If you actually look at the money spent directly per student... it's not as much.

Throwing money at isn't a solution, finding a better way to spend the money properly.

Finding a better way is always better, so you haven't said very much there. The finding of the better way, and proving that it is indeed better - that would be a worthwhile effort. That's done all the time, actually. It is part of what money for education goes toward - the continual search for better ways to educate. Often, though, superior effectiveness at preparing students for the life they'll live in the real world does require additional funding. Sometimes not. So again, you haven't said very much there.

A friend told me that a large number of children do not have computers or other home access to compete at home with children wealthier house-hold incomes. She also said that art is not being offered as much. Researchers all claim that art/crafts, creative studies help round out children and make them better students.

Even the cost of public schools has increased for parents if their children or parents want their children to have a well rounded group of courses. That has been going up for several years and now the cost is getting excessive for even middle class. Certain states charge parent more depending on who is running the state. Why should state elected officials determine what cost parents and what does not? I also believe that getting most of our children text books from Texas, is crazy. They have a bad habit of rewriting history,

        14. Climate change is real. Global warming is an invention of people with a one world government agenda and has negatively affected both our ability to deal with natural and man-made disasters and our need to develop our own energy resources as we transition to more sustainable forms of energy. "Cap and Trade" does NOTHING to limit toxic emissions or preserve natural resources, it only moves emissions from nations with long histories of environmental regulation to nations with little or no environmental regulations. How does that help the Earth's fragile ecology??

        26. BOTH parties have spent far too much money on political campaigns for far too long and the stench of special interests taints ALL of our elected officials. Saying that one party stinks more than the other ignores the FACT that they both smell like $h*t !!!

Well, I'd guess because there must be some women who don't consider preserving their right to legally kill their offspring to be the most important issue defining their political identities, nor the most important factor defining their womanhood.

        But that's just a guess.

Dean's comment sounds a bit like projection, to me. I mean, obviously, the thing he himself finds most irritating is a happy, hard-working liberal. You can tell from his serially bitter and vituperative posts. (Don't have an anxiety attack, Dean, "vituperative" means "full of cruel, angry criticisms and insults"-- not "there's a snake in the room".)

Why is it that all the Republicans I know are mediocre? They work, but they have little innovation or creativity. They do not challenge boundaries and expand their mind. They are like little robots. The liberals I know work very hard. However, they also bring more to their job: they bring insight, positive change and invention. Professional ethics, also, seem to seriously lacking in Republicans. So I would say the Republicans work hard and cheat as much as possible while the liberals work hard and maintain integrity. It is always wrong to paint a group of people with a broad brush. However, the pattern of behavior is rather supported by the facts time and time again.

("Federal Taxing and Spending Benefit Some States, Leave Others Footing the Bill"), which show that states that tend to support Republican presidential candidates (red states) also tend to receive more from the federal government than they send in taxes. Thus red states are welfare states.

All 52 states receive welfare, state by state break down of welfare for 2007, 2008:

        == www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/01/25/us/20090126-welfare-table.html

        2007 Red states $1,468,114
        Blue states $2,935,832

        2008 Red States $987,544
        Blue States $2,778,342

Of course this will depend on how you define a state as blue or red and of course blue states are screwed with over a million dollars being doled out to California.

Someone already posted the largest welfare recipients while I was sitting here making my little charts and adding everything up, poo poo.

If I was mad at him there would be absolutely no doubt in anyones mind, being in the "usual suspect" category that should be crystal clear.

Being creative in order to insult, but not cross the line has been referred to as "toting the line" by Sally, and she cited #5 of the CoH in judging Viners overall history, and used that criteria to suspend someone for a week. After several warnings, they had it coming.

Why so much hate from you? Seems like a simple desire to be located in the United States, have American workers is a crime in your standards. Next time look before leaping with your vile statements.

This is great, although I think they hindered themselves by only listing the top 100. There are so many more. What an angry group of misinformed folks the conservatives are.

I'm sure that a little more effort could have topped 100.

While I liked the list, there were a few that seemed a little petty and used as filler ( the "Republicans actually NEED Viagra" and the one about Palin being an ugly cow, for example ). Even though they were somewhat funny, it would have made the list a little better to stick to criticisms of policy and positions while avoiding the more personal attacks.

A good point, Yosho, but I guess they didn't intend it to be an entirely serious article.

this fact seems to steam them ...

The American Revolution , it's birth and idea for independence from England , was a Liberal undertaking. The conservatives at the time sided with King George because they didn't want to lose their land and money ... aka greed.

While I am not always happy - he is to conservative for me sometimes that thought of the alternatives scares the bejesus out of me.

Doesn't it feel good indeed? At the age of 65+, I can continue to tell the truth and say to those interested- or not interested -that I am too OLD to lie! My mother and father are both deceased so there is no one else to answer to--besides myself!

I would like to advise that you not even try to talk to these kind of people; it won't do you any good and will exasperate you and use up your precious breath uselessly. Save yourself!

These repugsare not "so dumb that they literally cannot understand why fascism is", it is that they don't care what you or I say, or what the label for it is!

As long as President Obama is not re-elected, that is all that matters.

You can call it fasicm, racism, or any other "ism"; the point is to not re-elect the President. Everything else will be alright---after that!

These people do not realize that the grass is not always GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE! They just want what they want, and this greedy, immediate gratification is the only way- and thing they know.

The bitter, low information demographic did not disappear despite the advancement of society, technology, information, etc. They had to exist somewhere, and the GOP had the perfect tent for them to all sit inside and scream and all the things outside the tent that they could neither see accurately nor understand. They're basically the flat earthers in the internet age. They must be filled with anxiety every minute of the day, wondering if by shouting angrily enough at the world, that maybe they can take us all back to the good ol' days, before fire and the wheel brought about socialistic redistribution of resources. In the not-too-distant future the word "troll" might become synonymous with right wing ultra partisanship in our dictionaries.

The title is: 100 Things You Can Say to Irritate A Republican. So lame and subjective would probably do some irritating. About half the list is valid, and I found it quite humorous, especially those items related to Viagra.

Let me add a few of my own:

You don’t have to be a Christian to be an American.

You don't have to be a Christian to hold any political office.

The Oval Office is NOT a “males only” office.

What is funny is the idea that you think you're independent. It's the last retreat of the Republican who wants to dissociate himself from the tea party.

What is really funny is democrats defending the current president. Now that's a good one!

Why defend people you don't know and who only care about your vote.

I didn't walk away from the republican party. The republican party walked away from me when they started spending like democrats.

If Republicans spent like Democrats, we wouldn't have the problems we currently have (since Republicans typically outspend Democrats by about 2 to 1, and we've had mostly Republican governance for the last thirty years or so).

I might suggest you go back and look at congress over the last 30 years. Ok. Let's do that:

          • 1981-1987
            • President-- Republican
            • Senate-- Republican
            • House--Democrat
          • 1988-1992
            • President-- Republican
            • Senate-- Democrat
            • House-- Democrat
          • 1993-1995
            • President-- Democrat
            • Senate-- Democrat
            • House-- Democrat
          • 1996-2000
            • President-- Democrat
            • Senate-- Republican
            • House-- Republican
          • 2001-2006
            • President-- Republican
            • Senate-- Republican
            • House-- Republican
          • 2007-2008
            • President-- Republican
            • Senate-- Democrat
            • House-- Democrat
          • 2009-2010
            • President-- Democrat
            • Senate-- Democrat
            • House-- Democrat
          • 2011
            • President-- Democrat
            • Senate-- Democrat
            • House-- Republican

          There you go--

          • From 1981 thru 1987, Congress was divided, but the government leaned Republican (i.e., Republican held the Executive and half of Congress)-- Balance: Republican
          • From 1988 thru 1992, the government leaned Democrat. The executive was Republican but Congress was majority Democrat. Balance-- Democrat
          • From 1993-1995, government was wholly Democrat, both Executive and Congress. Balance-- Democrat
          • From 1996 thru 2000, government leaned once again Republican. Congress was majority Republican, but Executive was still Democrat. Balance-- Republican.
          • From 2001 thru 2006, government was wholly Republican, both Congress and Executive. Balance-- Republican
          • 2006-2008, leaned Democrat, with Congress majority Democrat and Executive Republican
          • 2009-2010, wholly Democrat
          • 2011- leans Democrat

          Added up:
Since 1981, the government has leaned Republican 12 years, and been wholly Republican for 6 years, for a total of 18 of the last 31 years.

Republicans have held the Presidency 20 of the last thirty-one years
Republicans have held the House almost half of the last thirty-one years (i.e. 13 of 31 years)
Republicans have held the Senate 18 of 31 years

Government has leaned Democrat 9 years, and been wholly Democrat 2 years.

We've had mostly Republican governance for the last thirty years or so.

If you want to look at just the last 11 years, we've had wholly Republican governance for 6 of those eleven years, leaned Democrat for three, and been wholly Democrat for two. Which paints an even worse picture of Republicans.

The stimulus failed because the Obama never had a real super majority in congress and could not pass a stimulus bill big enough.

Its easily fixed. Tax the rich at 90% and we can pay for everything. STFU rich F+ckers.

          iar,

Thanks for proving my point THAT CONGRESS WAS SPLIT ALMOST EVENLY OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS.

88-95=7 years democrats held congress. 96 to 06= 10 years republicans held congress

          07-10=3 years democrats held congress

7+3=10 years, plus the 10 years for republicans holdin both houses then 6 years plus the current for a 50/50 splilt almost by your numbers.

Maybe you missed my initial point which was regarding CONGRESS. I didn't mention presidents since all they ultimately do is sign legislation into law or veto the legislation and send it back to congress. I will concede to the point that the republicans held the office of the president for a greater period of time BUT that wasn't my argument. Try to keep up.

Thanks for proving my point THAT CONGRESS WAS SPLIT ALMOST EVENLY OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS. I don't think I've "proved" that point, at all, but I'm not surprised that you'd try to brazen through with that claim.

Allow me to point out some errors you've made.

          1. If you're trying to prove "CONGRESS WAS SPLIT ALMOST EVENLY OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS" (and thanks for shouting-- it does ever so much to bolster your claim), it's probably a good idea to look at an entire thirty years.

            1988-2010 = 22 years, not 30.

          2. You didn't have an "initial point". I did. I said "we've had mostly Republican governance for the last thirty years or so", and you took exception to that claim. That you would like to discount the Presidency as part of the government is your problem, not mine, but you do not get to define what I meant by "governance" simply because you don't like the implications of the evidence.
          3. Presidents do quite a bit more than simply sign legislation or veto it. If that weren't the case, the conservative ire would rightly be directed solely at Congress. Implicitly, you understand this, even if you cannot bring yourself explicitly to admit it.

You're really not very good at this "debate" thing, are you?

          iar,

"I might suggest you go back and look at congress over the last 30 years"

Odd, that reads to me like an initial point in the debate between us. I did change my inital statement by putting the word congress in bold font since congress is what I was referring to and not the president. I was using the numbers you provided to prove your point.

I would also direct you to this sentence " 7+3=10 years, plus the 10 years for republicans holdin both houses then 6 years plus the current for a 50/50 splilt almost by your numbers."

          paxildog,

I'm not willing to put blame on one party. Our demise as a nation has been aided by both parties as iar's posted figures clearly illustrate. I will contend that from 1996-2006 were some of the best economic times of recent history based purely on the fact that the Clinton and Bush administrations put together 57 (32 for Clinton, 25 for Bush) straight quarters of economic growth. Factor in the tech bubble burtsting, Enron and 9/11 and that's still pretty impressive.
