Research at Kingston University in the UK have found out that by not making your bed, you would be far healthier than making it every day. I came upon this piece by accident while surfing the Net.
It seems that over a million microscopic dust mites inhabit our beds. They thrive on the moisture from the atmosphere and beds that are made help to keep that moisture in them giving the mites a nice breeding ground. However, when the beds are not made, the moisture gets a chance to dry out and the mites can't cope with the dry atmosphere so they eventually "dehydrate and dry", which is far healthier for us.
This is an important finding because the mites are not harmless. They actually cause asthma and other allergies costing the NHS over £700 million per year ($117m).
Personally, I am very pleased to know this because when I was very ill and lethargic, I stopped making my bed too often and just left it to air, but I used to get guilty feelings about that, as I love to see a neat bed! But it seems that, unknowingly, and unwittingly, I was actually doing myself a big favour by not being too fussy, especially being an asthma sufferer with a few allergies as well.
The research is continuing to find even more answers for us.
Do you make your bed daily? Are you a fuss pot with it?
