There are 195 school days a year. Teachers get holidays almost as long as politicians.
Yet last year 311,000 teachers called in sick and almost three million working days were lost to sickness - up from 2.5million in 1999. That equates to 15,000 teachers a day being absent from class.
Shadow Schools Secretary Michael Gove has asked for an investigation into why the figures have gone up. The cost is huge. Schools have to pay £103 to £210 a day for supply teachers.
