
The Associated Press reports that police officers in Rancho Cordova, Calif., a suburb of Sacramento, plan to pull drivers over during the holidays to give them — not tickets or warnings, but $5 Starbucks gift certificates, as rewards for good driving.
Stopping law-abiding drivers for no good reason was the department's idea, to "promote the holiday spirit and enhance goodwill between the traffic unit and the motoring public," Sgt. Tim Curran told the A.P.
